How to Measure Your Boat for a Custom Fit Protective Shield

The secret to ultimate marine protection isn't just the material—it's the fit. A cover that is too large will flap and tear, while one that is too small will leave sensitive areas exposed. Learning how to measure your boat correctly is the first step toward ordering a JK Covers precision shield.

Step 1: Measure the Length Overall (LOA)

Measure in a straight line from the tip of the bow to the farthest point on the stern. Do not include outboard engines or bow sprits unless you intend for the cover to wrap over them.

Step 2: Measure the Beam Width

Find the widest part of your boat (the beam) and measure from port to starboard. This ensures the Marine & Watercraft Cover has enough girth to protect the gunwales.

Step 3: Account for Height and Accessories

Measure from the highest point of the boat (such as a console, windshield, or T-top) down to the rub rail. This vertical measurement is critical for our Custom Fit Boat Covers.

Why Precision Templates Matter

At JK Covers, we maintain a database of over 500 unique templates developed during our 15 years of OEM & ODM experience. When you provide these three core measurements, we match them against our precision patterns to ensure a "second skin" fit.

Measuring Checklist:

  • Remove or Fold Antennas: Measure the height with them in the storage position.
  • Include Swim Platforms: If you want them protected, add their length to the LOA.
  • Engine Measurement: For total protection, pair your boat cover with a separate Outboard Engine Cover.
